The third tournament of the 2023 season featured beautiful weather, little wind, and a nice shaded spot for gameplay. Eight teams battled for the chance at becoming inaugural Discflect Summer Showdown Champions.

For Pool Play, every team played 7 games. After finishing in a tie at 6-1, Kevin Collins & David Fajerman (Backhand Bandits) defeated John Lyng & Bob Sager (John and Llama) in head-to-head play to claim the #1 seed. In another tie, Ed McKeon & John Wieland (One Hand Jam) beat Joel Rivera & Jeff Christ (Masters of Disco) in their head-to-head game to take the #3 seed.

In a three-way tie for the #5 seed was Mike Pettinato & Matt Milgrom (The Savages), Dean Mierzejwski & Jayven Patel (The Slot Machines), and Bobby Mierzejwski & Chris Bellina (The Swinging Discs). Pettinato & Milgrom won the tiebreaker by way of best head-to-head PPR. Rounding out the eight teams was Larry Bentley & Bill Sahlin (The Fearless Flyers) as the #8 seed.

In Bracket Play, the top three seeds won their best-of-3 series 2-0. In a tight series to advance, Rivera/Christ (#4 seed) took down Pettinato/Milgrom (#5 seed) two games to one in overtime in the deciding Game 3.

Moving into the Semi-Finals, Collins/Fajerman (#1 seed) defeated Rivera/Christ (#4 seed) in a two game sweep, including their second perfect game of the day. Meanwhile, McKeon/Wieland (#3) took down Lyng/Sager 2-0 to advance. In a single game 3rd place match, Lyng/Sager beat Rivera/Christ to finish 3rd place overall.

In the best-of-5 Finals, both teams made some great plays as they battled for the title. Collins/Fajerman got out to an early 2-0 series lead, but McKeon/Wieland rebounded to make the series 2-1. In the next game, Collins/Fajerman bounced back to win the series 3-1, claiming the crown of inaugural Discflect Summer Showdown champions.

Special shoutout to the Amateur teams who played up in the Pro Division and to Dean Mierzejwski & Jayven Patel for being the top finishing Amateur team in this tournament.
